Abstract

This chapter includes a historic overview of urban land use patterns within the context of sustainable urban design. The reference to the role of urban agriculture within sustainable urban design is of particular significance as is the definition of “site yield” as a measure of the percentage of energy and resource requirements harvested from within the boundary of a development site.
