Thinking about creativity: developing ideas, making things happen

Abstract

How can teachers recognise and promote creativity in their pupils, without a personal understanding of the experience of being creative themselves? This chapter addresses some of the conceptual frameworks that can be used to help us recognise and think about creativity, and illustrate some of these theoretical approaches by describing creative practices in a project using ICT as a tool to develop ideas and make things happen. This chapter will also raise some questions and discussions to help the reader to think about: • how we might recognise creativity in ourselves, in other people, in our communities and in our wider societies; • how these ideas about creativity can be expressed and developed through using information and communication technologies (ICT); • how we might approach our own teaching to reflect creativity for our pupils and for ourselves.
