Abstract

This chapter focuses on the American poet Jerome Rothenberg and performs a series of "acts of othering" in a discussion of "place". The work of ethnopoetics, I argue, achieves not so much a psychological depth of character (as is recognised in the best realist fiction), but a renewed reciprocity and responsibility of being in place and our relationship within its constituent elements.
