The following literature review looks at non-market economic studies of cultural heritage sites that have been conducted in Europe. The most wisdely used non-market valuation technique in the cultural heritage sector is contingent valuation. The methodology has been widely used in the field of environmental economics since the 1960s. The adoption of the technique in the cultural heritage field has been much more recent.
