Abstract

From England fans abroad to the Last Night of the Proms at home Mark Perryman dissects the competing appeals of versions of Englishness. He offers a critique of recent contributes to the debate on the particularities of English nationalism which largely ignore and disavow the connection to the national-popular while also accounting for the consequences of Labour's entrenched British unionism. In contrast Perryman seeks to outline the terrain of a post Break-Up Britain and the formations in anticipation of a distinctive English left.
