This is an important paper that utilises Artificial Life techniques to endow agents in virtual worlds with the power of predicting sequences of discrete events. This facilitates enhanced levels of autonomous behaviour and adds to the illusion of sentience. The paper introduces the problem and sets its context within digital entertainment/ games. Theoretical foundations are discussed and evidence of emergent behaviour patterns is presented as experimental results and screen shots. Links are also provided to functional web-based demonstrations.
