AbstractThis book chapter describes the OCEAN Design Research Association’s specific approach to transdisciplinary research by design, from its first manifestation as OCEAN net in 1994 until today. This commences with a short introduction to the history of the Association and an elaboration of the disciplinary backgrounds and expertise of the currently active members and their individual and collective research interests. Four examples of work are discussed that exemplify key aspects particular research areas within the Association. The selected projects form the basis for discussing the conceptual and methodological approaches that underlie the respective approach to research by design.
