Appropriation of social networking by older people: two case studies

Abstract

At the ‘Fostering social interactions in a the Ageing Society’ workshop, we can contribute findings from two in-depth longitudinal studies of older people making use of social networking sites, specifically YouTube and digital photography sites. We use these studies to challenge traditional approaches to thinking about technology for older people and models of accessibility to suggest appropriation as a more useful lens.
