Interdisciplinary lines: telephones, epigrams and other ways of designTools Wingham, Ivana (2008) Interdisciplinary lines: telephones, epigrams and other ways of design In: The Mobility of the Line: An Interdisciplinary Conversation, 10-12 Jan 2008, University of Brighton, UK.
AbstractTaking the examples of Bauhaus teachers Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Paul Klee this paper will discuss the mobility of the line in terms of mobility between the manual and intellectual activity, materiality and immateriality, actual and virtual using Elizabeth Grosz’s theoretical ideas on actualizing the potential. The paper will further describe a design project that re-visited Paul Klee’s teaching diagrams, and that suggests a way to understand how, at a time of intersections between art and technology, new, different conceptions of design can emerge through understanding line’s place in terms of mobility.
